Moby-Dick, or The Whale

I was never assigned this book in school. Recently I've been reading real life accounts of sea exploration and I got it in my head to give Melville's fictional sea tale a read for the first time. I also have cetaceaphobia so I thought this story might help me confront my fears somewhat without having to see an actual leviathan in person. I was wondering if anyone else has read Moby Dick, or anything else by Melville, and what your thoughts are.

Here's a passage I found particularly interesting:

I remember discovering this series because the of the book cover, it really caught my eye... and now I've seen all this sites all over the web dedicated to talk about Twilight, by Stepehenie Meyers...

Don's spoil it for me, I'm certainly reading the series, but could you give me an idea on why are they becoming a phenomenon?

I got:

- Marius (ancient vampire in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles)

- Dracula (according to Elizabeth Kostova in "The Historian")
- Olivia Foxworth (in The Dollanganger Series, by V.C. Andrews)
- Ah! Hermione Granger from the H.Potty Saga, duh

How do you picture your favorite fiction characters?

.Do you find it easy to picture in your head the image of a certain fiction character?

Usually, the movie industry makes it a lot easier, although it's not always accurate...

How do you picture then, fiction characters in your head? Maybe a public figure, an actor, a friend, a family member...

Place a photographic reference here!

***

I myself, for example, picture Pandora (a female vampire in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles) as Monica Bellucci

What do you make of "Rose Madder" by Stephen King? *WARNING - SPOILERS*

Not sure about this book, I certainly didn't enjoy two things:

- The fact that there's no logical explanation behind the whole parallel universe inside the portrait of this Rose Madder woman

- And the ending

At first it's exciting how strange things start popping up in the common world, but at some point you just have to take it all in without any sort reasonable clarification... I guess it's called suspension of disbelief but I don't find it very satisfying in this case...
