23 Minutes In Hell

You desperately long for even a few moments of rest, but you never, ever get that privilege. Imagine for a moment how terrible you feel after forty eight hours of no sleep. In hell you never sleep, rest or find a quiet moment. No rest from the torments, the screams, the fear, the thirst, the lack of breath, the stench, the heat, the hopelessness. You are isolated from contact with any other people.

Her Kind

I have gone out, a possessed witch,

haunting the black air, braver at night;

dreaming evil, I have done my hitch

over the plain houses, light by light:

lonely thing, twelve-fingered, out of mind.

A woman like that is not a woman, quite.

I have been her kind.

I have found the warm caves in the woods,

filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves,

closets, silks, innumerable goods;

fixed the suppers for the worms and the elves:

whining, rearranging the disaligned.

I was never assigned this book in school. Recently I've been reading real life accounts of sea exploration and I got it in my head to give Melville's fictional sea tale a read for the first time. I also have cetaceaphobia so I thought this story might help me confront my fears somewhat without having to see an actual leviathan in person. I was wondering if anyone else has read Moby Dick, or anything else by Melville, and what your thoughts are.

Here's a passage I found particularly interesting:

I wish I could do that!

How do you put together a book? I'm probably getting ahead of myself here, and should start on how to write properly for starters, but I really wonder, how do you distribule all this information and ideas buzzing about in your head and turn it into a story?

He is boisterous, eccentric, opinionated, disagreeable... all the things you'd expect of an author. His methods of writing fiction have actually influenced me as a writer in various respects. He feels art is something that is subconsciously drawn, without a conscious stream of thought leading the path (in other words, "thinking" is out when writing fiction). But Michael Cartwright was still pretty impressed when Jesus appeared in the foil wrapping of his cider bottle down at the pub.

Okay, continuing the theme of historical Asian poetry, I'm currently reading Kahlil Gibran's book entitled "The Madman: His Poems & Parables".

For those unfamiliar with Gibran, he was a 19th Century poet, artist and writer born in Lebanon. His work is quite broad-ranging, but he's reasonably well known, even in the modern Western world.

This particular text deals with themes of madness/insanity. Here's an edited example:

You ask me how I became a madman. It happened thus: ...

A friend recently recommended a poetry book to me, which happened to be Omar Khayyam's "Ruba'iyat". I'm not overly familiar with Persian poetry (or even poetry in general), so I wasn't really sure what to expect.

Khayyam was apparently best known in 11th century Persia (now Iran) as an astronomer, mathematician and philosopher. and I think its the latter role which influences his words in this book, making them more "philosophical guidance" than poetry itself.

It's appalling the amount of condolences expressed by the public toward the icky suicide of Mark Speight. Specially in a society that feels so strongly about drugs' use (and abuse).

It is, indeed a rather depressing story. But it also seems that all the details of both deaths are being left aside in the name of humaneness, empathy and benevolence.

All I say is, action-reaction.

At the end of the day, it's nothing but one of the many consequences of doing drugs. A mix of cocaine, vodka, ...

CARLTON MELLICK III writes trashy squishy child-like novels set in surreal fantasy versions of consumer America, with an emphasis on nightmarish absurdities, punk perversions, and social satire. In only a few short years, his surreal counterculture ...

How do you picture then, fiction characters in your head? Maybe a public figure, an actor, a friend, a family member...

Place a photographic reference here!

I myself, for example, picture Pandora (a female vampire in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles) as Monica Bellucci
